🪰 Drosofix – Breeding substrate for fruit flies (2.5 kg)
Drosofix is a nutritious substrate specially designed for the reproduction and breeding of fruit flies. Simply mix the powder with water to obtain a creamy paste ready for use.
This preparation contains all the necessary ingredients to promote a productive and consistent production of fruit flies. The substrate should remain slightly moist to ensure good breeding conditions.
At an optimal temperature of 23°C, it generally takes 12 to 20 days to obtain the hatching of the first fruit flies.
⚙️ Setting up the breeding
• Mix the powder with an equivalent volume of water to obtain a paste.
• Pour the mixture to about 2.5 cm thick in the breeding boxes.
• Add wood shavings and then close the lid.
• Seed the boxes with at least 20 D. hydei or 50 D. melanogaster.
Fruit flies are very small flies particularly suitable for feeding:
• amphibians (dendrobates)
• baby lizards like Phelsuma
• praying mantises
• many fish in aquaristics
To facilitate feeding in a terrarium, it is possible to place a slice of banana. The fruit flies will come to rest on it and will be easily consumed by the animals.
🐜 Simple home breeding
A fruit fly breeding can be easily done in a bottle or suitable container:
• place the substrate at the bottom of the container
• add a laying substrate
• introduce the adult fruit flies
The larvae will develop in the substrate and will allow for a rapid expansion of the colony.
