Beetles is a coloring book that comes in leporello.
Isabelle Simler offers naturalistic drawings of beetles to color, through which the child learns and observes nature.
The front unfolds like an accordion on a black and white drawing. The animals are represented in situation and nothing is left out to discover these little insects. On the back, a documentary part on the elements present in the coloring allows to link perception to learning, and observation to creation: we find referenced the shapes and colors of this whole microcosm.
This fun activity allows us to get as close as possible to the illustrator's unique style (one of the keys to her success), while introducing us to a marvelous microcosm.

Beetles allows budding artists to explore the differences between the content and the container, between the outside and the inside, and between the whole and the singular. The leporello lends itself particularly well to this type of work because it allows for long-term work, with several approaches, without the drawbacks of traditional large formats. Once fully unfolded, the coloring is more than 1m20 long.
The author's inimitable style clearly shows the complexity of nature; the child is invited to take hold of it to better appreciate and understand the world around him.
