The diversity of shapes, sizes and colours of beetles astonishes and fascinates, as discoveries are made. Representing more than a quarter of animal species, with 400,000 described species - and probably millions more yet to be discovered - their abundance is as surprising as their diversity.
This book approaches the incredible profusion of these insects through 600 species, grouped into four chapters, corresponding to their classification. In each of them, they are presented according to their family and subfamily. Each page presents a species and locates its distribution, positions it in relation to neighboring species, specifies its taxonomic situation and provides information on its rarity, biology and scientific interest. A splendid iconography and a neat layout highlight each beetle in real size, accompanied by an adapted magnification allowing to appreciate the most tenuous details.
