The aim of this work is to enable the identification in the field of beetles in the Paris basin, using a simple method accessible to naturalists and the general public curious about nature.
The book presents around 500 species of beetles (10% of the fauna of Ile-de-France) that can be identified in situ, the insect held in hand, sometimes with the help of a field magnifying glass. The diagnostic characteristics are precisely pointed out on an extremely precise photograph of the insect using arrows. Secondary information completes the identification elements: living environment, classification element, known distribution, QR code. The latter refer to the site of the Inventory of Natural Heritage (INPN) of the National Museum of Natural History, ensuring access to up-to-date distribution maps.

The particularity of the work is to present the species according to their silhouettes, their colors and their patterns, and not according to the traditional linear classification, which allows it to be open to the general public.
